so the whole new website that I was so excited about last week is really bringing me down. I just tried to do something to it and it threw the whole thing outta whack...ha ha and I know it will be awhile before the website person lady can fix it for me so if you happen to see what a mess I made of it...I am sorry. I am so embarrassed of how retarded I am when it comes to something that seems like it should be so easy. :(

This will officially be the last post on this blog. While it's been fun, I've decided to move up to a new site that is a blog and website all rolled into one. YAY
Although it's far from being officially set up, (I have some changes to make to the layout and need to still get my pages and galleries set up) you can take a peek at my work in progress. The new site is actually the same as my old one(which for the record was DELETED today...not sad at all to see that go..ha ha)

I debated on changing the name, but everyone already knows me by sjmacky so I decided to keep it.

Best Week Ever

So far my first official week off school has been fantabulous....and very busy...I have so much exciting news...first off I am getting a NEW SITE..and I am sooo stinkin' pumped up about it. This will make your day Sheri...It's one of those "blog-sites" so My old site may be down for a couple of days...feel free to spread the word for people to just come here until the new site is up.
the second bit of exciting news is I finally got this:

Man I have been waiting soooooooooo long to get one of these. I kept saying "next week I am getting a 5D...then it was "next month ..." and so on and so forth. I put it off because I was a little worried about money with the new house and all but then last week in a 48 hour time period I booked like 8 weddings then like 3 more since then so... I felt like I could finally make the purchase...I am in LOVE with it! It came yesterday and I used it for a bpic shoot today. I am dying to see how they turned out so I am off to do some editing!

Ok so I had this consultation set up with Sabrina for a little over a week. I go down to meet them at her office at around 10:00. Beth and Brad are in the military and are planning Sept. '09 wedding. BUT they were actually getting married before they were deployed! The plan was to do the ceremony yesterday and then come back and have another ceremony with family and friends. So I leave the meeting at around 11 and am driving around Forest Park scoping out spots for Sheri's shoot on the 21st and then the phone rings...Here's how the conversation went..
Sabrina: "Sara, it's Sabrina...Beth and Brad want to book you for their wedding"
Sara: "Yay...I'm excited...they are a great couple"
Sabrina: "Yeah they are...so whatcha doin' today at 4:00?"
Sara: "uhhhhh nothin' (but inside I am secretly FREAKING out because as you know Charter was coming out to re-establish my connections with the outside world)
Sabrina: "well do you want to come shoot the ceremony today at Forest Park"
Sara: "I'd love to...let me make some calls"

ok if there was a world record for the number of calls made consectively in the shortest amount of time...I'd hold the record...I was frantically calling around to see how I was going to get my kids and make sure someone was there to let charter in...ha ha of course my friend Maryann bailed me out again and came over to let charter in. They were supposed to be there between 1-3 but of course didn't roll up till 2:58..no kidding...I was freaking out.
But I made it to Forest Park in plenty of time and I have to say Beth and Brad's ceremony was one of the sweetest I have seen. That's what it's all about ya know...nothing fancy...nothing elaborate...just a few family members and two people who hold a tremendous amount of love and respect for each other. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE LOVE LOVE all the details that brides put into planning their weddings. Those little details really personalize each ceremony and make for great pictures, but I have seen them also cause a lot of stress for people and in the end, what REALLY matters is that two people who are deeply in love are making a lifetime committment to each other...and that's exactly what yesterday was all about. I felt really honored to be a part of it! Best Wishes Beth and Brad and I can't wait to do it all over again next September!!

This was by far the most "intimate" ceremony I have ever seen. I loved how close everyone was able to get and feel actually involved with the ceremony!

Although Beth's parents weren't able to be there physically, they were able to hear the ceremony and even participate in it with this phone. I thought it was so sweet how this guy held it up to them during the ceremony!

Happy Birthday Ava

Some of you who read the blog alot may recognize this picture. It's my friend Christine's daughter, Ava...who happens to be a "miracle" baby by the way. It's way too long a story to explain though. Anyways this is a picture from a shoot we did when she was 7 weeks old!

And this is little Ava almost exactly one year later...Look at that hair!! She is so cute and such a good little girl...doesn't care much to get her picture taken though!

Hey guess what I am doing right now (or I should say WAS doing before I got online)

And it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO awesome. I can't remember the last time I had NOTHING that I HAD to do. It's my first official day of summer break and so far I have eaten 2 large bowls of cereal and slept....ha ha pretty exciting huh? But I needed I break.

ALSO EXCITING news has come my way. I will get to resestablish all my lost connections with the outside world next Tuesday between 1-3.... Yes, believe it or not...Charter is FINALLY offering their service to my part of the street....I can't believe it's been 6 months that I have had no real internet, phone, or cable...

To celebrate...the very next person who books a wedding with me gets the "I am so freakin' happy I am spreading the happiness" special...."what's that you ask???" if you want to know, you gotta email me... sjmacky at yahoo dot com ...

My child the track star

One of the cool things about being a teacher and having my child go to the same school is that I get to be at all the stuff she does. Field day is always such a big deal for kids...like it's the olympics or something. I don't get it but maybe it's because I am a grown up. Anyways her class came in 1st place...4 points away from a perfect field day score...which is apparently the first time in our school's history...ha ha and yes someone keeps track of it...like I said...I don't get it.

much to my dismay she sat next to her "boyfriend" the whole entire time. I don't condone her having a boyfriend at this age. But these two have been close for a long time...since they were in Kindergarten together. She's sad because he is going to a new school next year...I am not so sad though...she's too young to be thinking about boys..ha ha

HUGE SPECIAL

Ok so I just realized that two weekends ago was my official 3 year anniversary of doing weddings. (May 28th to be exact) and I am going to offer an AMAZING deal for any bride booking for Jan, Feb, or Dec 2009. Anne and Robert

Anne and Robert couldn't have asked for a better day. The two were married at Graham Chapel at Wash U. where Robert teaches math. The reception was at the Roberts Orpheum Theater downtown. This was one of the most beautiful weddings ever. You can just see the love Anne and Robert share every time they look at each other. Congratulations guys and thanks for letting Jodi and I share your day with you!

All I can say is wow...I have the best clients ever. There were so many favorite images I had of Kate and Chad's wedding last Sunday that I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to post. Kate was planning her wedding from out of town so this was the first time I actually got to meet the groom. Talk about luck...all cute fun guys and airforce officers to boot. They were married in the Renassiance Grand (I am probably spelling that wrong sorry) in "an America's Place". It was so cool. I had the best day with them...Of course it rained early on...just like it has at EVERY FREAKING wedding this year, but by the time we did pics it was georgeous! For time purposes and because now that the house next door is up I don't get good internet signals, I am only posting a few. Congrats Kate and Chad and thanks for letting me share your day with you!

This is my niece and nephew. Many of my clients know about my neice. Two years ago she was diagnosed with Luekemia. I get a lot of people asking how she is doing and I am so relieved to say that she is now officially CANCER FREE. She did two years of treatment and now is doing great. There is a reason why she is known as "the bull". We just knew nothing was going to stop this girl!

I am probably going straight to hell for taking this picture. We were told absolutely no pictures during the ceremony. But I had my big lens and no flash and I just had to do it! Priceless. I had to run out right after this to go to saint charles for a wedding. I thought I was going to miss this shot because communion was running late. I am so glad I stayed because to me this pic is priceless.

Megan and Chris had an awesome wedding last Saturday. Interstingly enough they were married in the same church that I did my very first wedding EVER in almost exactly three years ago. My goodness I can't believe it's been that long already. The day started off so pretty. But obviously as the pics show, it got yucky outside. But it didn't dampen anyone's spirits and the day was so fun. Thanks to Jodi for second shooting with me that day. Congrats guys!

B-Pic CRAZINESS

ok, so I have been frantically trying to keep up with my requests for Boudoir session information. I am putting this on the blog so I can point people in this direction. I have 84 emails about Boudoir alone since the end of February. YIKES! That's a ton!
Here's the 411:

These shoots are a lot of fun! I think most people find it nerve wracking at first but then feel at ease in no time and just start having fun! I don't know one person who has regretted doing it and the guys I have talked to have thought it was the best thing their wife or fiance has ever done for them! The shoots can be done at my house (pics on my blog www.sjmacky.blogspot.com) or at a hotel of your choice. If you choose the hotel you would pay for the room. Some hotels give discounted rates if you only want to rent for part of the day instead of a whole night. The cost of the session when it's done at my house is only $250 and that includes a high res DVD with all of your images (usually around 75-125..sometimes more) and I "touch-up" (meaning airbrushing trouble spots and stuff) about 20 of your favorites. I also put them in a passcode protected gallery so you have a little online slideshow.

Here's the bad news. I am the BUSISEST person I know. I work a full time 40 hour a week job (really 60 hours...you teachers out there can feel my pain, right?) and also do weddings, seniors,engagements, and boudoir. Occasionally I even make time to see my family. ha ha... My slots are very limited right now. And what is happening is I get so many requests for info and dates, if you take a week to get back to me on a date that I sent you, it may be gone when you email me back. If you want a date, you need to let me know as soon as you can after I give you one because chances are it will be gone if you don't. Unfortunately dates get taken fast.

A lot of people ask me all the time why I don't quit teaching and just do photography full time. Well...sometimes I think about it and then a former student comes and see me and it seems to make what I do worthwhile. I had Morgan my second year teaching at Fox Elementarty. Even as a 9 year old you could just tell she was going to be so pretty. Not only that though, she is one of the coolest kids I know and my kids think she is the best babysitter ever! Also I guess the I guess the new thing in senior shoots is to being your cute boyfriend. Morgan brought Alex and we did a few of him too! Here are a few from our shoot Sunday.

Ya know Bpic shoots are kinda like gambling...A lot of times I don't know the girls who contact me so it's always a surprise when they show up at my door. Well Sunday I hit the jackpot. I got to take pictures of one of the cutest girls ever. She has to remain a mystery because she has a high profile job and if racy pics of her on the internet ever surfaced it could cause quite a scandal. Anyway, I did have permission to show some images that didn't really show "the face" which is unfortunate because some of the images of this girl are stunning. In fact, Bryan happened to walk by when I was editing some of these (which is a HUGE no-no for the fam to do) and he commented that he thought this mystery girl was one of the sexiest girls he has ever seen me photograph...which is a HUGE compliment because I have photographed a lot of beautiful girls! The best thing though, is I don't think this girl knows how geourgeous she really is!

I could not have asked for a better way to spend my birthday. Seriously Nicole and Jim's wedding was so much fun and their wedding party was a blast. My cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing all day...and you may not recoginize that bright yellow thing in the sky...but it was SUNNY..in fact the first wedding this year that I did that wasn't rainy, cold or windy! Yay! The day was PERFECT. Nic had some of my favorite vendors too...Sabrina from Proposing Dreams and Mike from Thunderstorm media! I also got to shoot with Jerren and I haven't in awhile so I was just beside myself Saturday! Congratulations Nikki and Jimmy and I hope you are having a BLAST in Jamaica. I cannot thank you enough for giving me the best brithday I have had in a long, long time! Here is a quick slideshow of their day...

Kelly Manno's "Shot Party" was...

Last Sunday Kelly got a bunch of photographers together for a fun urban engagement photo shoot and model shoot. I didn't feel much like shooting...more just like hanging out with other people for a bit, so I didn't get that many great shots. But here's a few of my favorites. I didn't get to shoot the the model (that sounds funny) because it started raining and I went home to work on Sheri's wedding pics.

Well the time has finally come for my favorite blog stalker's wedding post. I don't even know where to begin. Even with the yucky weather and not getting to really do any pics, this was most of the most special days I have got to share with someone. Sheri has one of those personalities you can't help but love. I swear she is like smiling in every picture...literally beaming.
We joked around at her final consult that this weekend last year I spent 4 hours in a little tavern with the wedding party because we had freezing rain all day...in APRIL...and I'll be darned if it didn't almost happen again.
But she handled it all in stride and didn't let it ruin her day. In fact we are going to go out and do pics when it's nicer. Sheri will be my first trash the dress bride so I am really excited!
Anyways Sheri (and Mike) thanks so much for choosing me to share your day with you. It was truly one of the most special weddings I have ever seen and I wish you both the very best. I hope you are having a fabulous time in Cancun...and I know you have probably already checked my blog 50 times waiting for this post...don't try to lie...ha ha j/j talk to ya soon! Sheri's mom has made it to my all time favorite mom list. SHe was more nervous than Sheri and Mike put together. At one point she kept saying..."i need....I need...I need.." and Sheri busts out " A DOWNER" and I almost peed in my pants laughing,,,Seriously I have never seen a mom more proud of her daughter, In fact when Sheri walked down the Aisle I even almost cried because of how emotional her mom was.

This picture cracks me up because I always strive to get good candids and every time I would try to be sneaky photographer lady Sheri would look at me... This time I waved at her with my pinky as I was trying to focus so it's a little fuzzy but I still love it!

The weather was so yucky that literally this is one of only three pics we took outside on our way to the reception. The wedding party didn't even get off the bus!

I got to shoot Christy and Joel's wedding last Friday. Christy is actually the sister of Jenna, whose wedding I photographed last June. This was such a great, laid back day. The weather was a little chilly but at least we didn't see any rain! Congrats guys and thanks for letting me share your day!

I actually met Sara and Dan from a referral made by my sister after she had done some engagement pictures for them last year. These are two of the nicest, cutest, people I have ever met. Sara looked absolutely amazing and Dan is so cute, so needless to say the day was such an easy one for me to shoot. I was so excited to finally get to go see the inside of St. Francis Xavier College Church. I have been dying to photograph a wedding there since I started doing wedding photography! We were a little concerned at first that it may rain, but the luck 'o the Irish was on our side and it stayed dry all day! Thanks guys for letting Jodi and I share your day! We had a blast!

Really super belated post and my sincerest apologies

First I have to give you a little background to help you understand why this belated post is such a big deal. Sheri, the bride featured in these pictures, is probably one of the sweetest, funniest, most organized people I have come across in my last three years as a wedding photographer...she also happens to be my blog's biggest "stalker"...at least that I know of...seriously like when I wasn't able to post for a long time I would get these desperate emails from her begging for a post...almost even leading to blackmail if I didn't...ha ha (J/J Sheri)
Anyways I met up with Sheri and Mike last Sunday for their final consult and she reluctantly brought it to my attention that I never posted HER pics...of all people to forget to post...I forgot hers...I was dumbfounded and really don't know how they never ended up here...but...here they are now! We had such an awesome fall day at Lafeyette Park. Mike was so...how should I say this...worried...that I was going to make him do stupid stuff...which I did...but he was a trooper and I think even though he may not to admit to it, we had a fun time.
Sheri, I am soooooooooooooo sorry I never posted your pictures. I will make it up to you somehow. AND....I hope those wedding nightmares ease up a little for ya...at least the ones you're having about me not showing up...you were probably having those about me since I never posted your pics...ha ha Love you guys and I can't wait to shoot your wedding!!! Good luck with your programs!
Also I must also tell everyone.... Sheri came to the meeting with all her family formals written on index cards outlining who she wanted photographed and even numbered them and everything!!! sooooooooooo cool!!I wanted to take pics of them to post to show you how cool this is but I am still waiting to get my camera bodies back. yikes I hope my camera guy hurries...T minus 5 days and counting till my first wedding of 2008!!!

Unfortunately one of my favorite couples this year has made the respectable decision to postpone their wedding on June 21, 2008. Which means it is now up for grabs. The likelihood of booking it this close to June is probably pretty slim, but I thought I would throw it out there to all my girls at stlwed.com...maybe you know someone.
This is one of those dates that I bet I had 10 people ask about once it was booked. I am really bummed that they had to cancel, but at the same time totally understand. Getting married is one of the biggest decisions people have to make, and making the right decision is really important!

So now that I have internet access again (thanks to my new sprint broadband card) I have been gearing up for my first wedding of 2008. I have been going through old slideshows and just reminiscing about some of the great times I had last year with my clients. I thought it might be fun to kinda so one of those cheesy superlative things that they do in highschool yearbooks...I probably could've done about 20 more...but the sprint card just isn't as fast as my old DSL so....three hours later...I am calling it quits. ok, so what is it with guys and picikng out meat to cook? When did it become a competitive sport? Does anyone else know someone who thinks that no one can pick out meat better than them...like seriously everytime there is a bar-b-que or fancy dinner, they have to give you the play by play on what a terrific find this certain piece of meat they are about to consume is and that it might be the best ever chosen...

I have this "friend" who shall remain anonymous...that told me this story and I about peed in my pants. To protect this "friend" I will refer to him as TMP (Top Meat Picker) but I am going to tell it from his point of view...

"Sara, OMG you are not going to believe what happened to me at Schnucks. I was in the meat aisle and they had no good meat. I mean it. All the stuff they had out was terrible. And I noticed the old man next to me had a really good peice in his hand. So I waited him out to see what he was going to do with it and as soon as he put it down, I grabbed it, threw it in my cart, and took off. I bolted because I knew as soon as he put it down he would realize he had picked up the best piece of meat in the bunch and would try to get it back. The next thing I know this man is chasing me yelling "sir...Sir..." I kept thinking their is NO WAY I am giving this peice of meat back to that guy...so I was practically running at this point...darting down different aisles and back tracking so he didn't know which way I was going to go. I kept hearing him yell after me and thought to myself...I knew this meat was good because, man he is really wanting it back!...I was prepared to throw down for it right their in the middle of the shampoo Aisle...Somehow after a few minutes of me trying to dodge him he caught up with me and at this point we were both out of breath. When he finally confronted me I just told him "Dude" you're not getting this meat back." and in between pants the guy gets this weird look on his face and says..."sir...you have MY CART"

Apparently in TMP's mad dash to grab the "perfect meat" he threw it in the wrong cart and then made this poor guy chase him down for it for 5 minutes....
Don't get me wrong I like a good bbq as much as the next girl...but I'd hate to think it caused someone to have a stroke at the supermarket... hee hee

These last few months have been very trying for me to say the least. We ran into one huge obstacle after another trying to sell our old house and purchase the new one...not to mention all the "personal drama" that was going on. My mom and dad stood by me the whole time and supported me in every way they could. Not only did they save my butt financially a few times, they truly saved me emotionally as well...so I decided to dedicate this post to them. I love you guys! You really are the best parents ever!!

these are some pics my dad took on vacaction. He is the main reason I am where I am today with my photography. In fact he gave me my first real digital camera that I used to shoot my first two weddings. Of course now I am the one giving him all the "tips" ha ha j/j dad!

I FINALLY got a laptop last night and guess where I am making this post...right from my very own kitchen. I have internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't been this freakin excited in a loooooooong time...granted it's kinda slow (although not as slow as dial up) it looks like I am going to be able to use it!! I was positive it wouldn't work from here but it does....the real test will be when I have to upload 500 or so images. I'll get to put it to test next weekend. Wedding season will finally kick in for me on March 15th. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE shooting weddings, but it has been so nice having a break. I haven't had this long of a break since I started in 2005 and I forgot how nice it was just spending time doing nothing. I am super pumped though to get back to all the action!
Thanks for your patience while I was internetless...especially you Sheri...I know you had some serious withdrawals. I am going to try to make a post with pics in it tonight and see how fast this new sprint card really is! Stay tuned!

well one good thing about not having internet is that I have had lots of time to get the new house whipped into shape. I am posting these because I have quite a few Bpic sessions booked for January-March and doing them at my house saves people some money! When I do them at a hotel or loft, I have to charge more than $250 (depending on how many girls book) to help cover the cost of the room, but I can do them for cheaper when the shoot is at my house!

Since I have been able to post. Thank goodness for all my good friends who don't mind me coming over and hogging their internet...I guess I didn't realize how much NOT having internet was going to suck. I am still soooo ticked at Charter. It's looking like we may get it in February or March...which is a HUGE crock of...well you know...
This is the wedding of Diana and Nestor. It was officially my last wedding of 2007! The day was so emotionally charged! Jerren and I got some great images! I felt so lucky to have photographed their day! We had so much fun and I got to see a lot of things I haven't seen before since Nestor's family is from Mexico! It was really neat!
Anyways...I have some catching up to do!!

Don't let the winter weather full ya...those wedding gowns can really get warm! Smart brides always bring fans!

anyone else feel my pain? I called three weeks ago to verify that I could get service in my new house (it's a LARGE subdivision and well established so it shouldn't have been an issue) The told me yes after they had to take a WEEK to "check" on it. They set up my services, gave me my new phone number (which I have already given to my clients, family and friends) and then ON THE DAY they are supposed to install my cable, internet, and phone tell me that I can't get service at my house...Here's the kicker...12 house down the street has service available! Basically they told me there wasn't a high enough demand for service on my street...duh...it's a new section...the bottom line is because there aren't enough people ordering the service they won't run the wires from the hub that is ALREADY there 12 house up to my house... HELLLLOOO maybe there isn't a high enough demand because the company is so freakin' inept that no one trusts them...but I am trying to get their service and they're turning me away!! So I call AT&T to sign up for dish and high speed and they don't offer high speed in my area either...c'mon give me a break...I am NOT in the boonies or anything...so if anyone has ANY suggestions on what I can do to get high speed DSL ASAP please let me know! I will look into all suggestions. I am able to check my email from school (and obviously post from school) but what I can't do right now is post pictures or upload anything for anybody or check my email from home. I am really sorry and hope to get this resolved asap!! :(

When people ask me why I like shooting weddings so much, for me the answer is easy. I LOVE capturing those true emotions. I want people to be able to look at their images and remember exactly how they were feeling at that very moment. It's not always an easy thing to do. You have to be very anticipatory sometimes...waiting for that perfect moment...last weekend this was not the case. Clara and Chris's wedding was one of the most emotional weddings I have ever seen...You can just tell how close the family is and how much Chris and Clara truly love each other. It seemed like every time I turned around someone was crying or laughing hysterically...I LOVE that! Stef and I had a blast. Here are a few of my fav's from the day!

Okay so Kate and Jeremy are not a couple of mine....They are actually getting married in Chicago...but I am SOOOOOOO jealous of their wedding photographer. Melinda and Kevin finally tied the knot after 9 years or something crazy like that. Melinda is one of the coolest brides ever. I actually lucked out in getting to shoot their day. Somebody else had originally booked it, but then unfortunately the wedding got called off earlier this summer...then magically two weeks later Melinda called and the rest is history. Sam and Lesley were married at the Botanical Gardens last Saturday and MAN was it a georgeous day! This couple is so extremely sweet. The day was really about the "wedding" and not all the stuff that goes along with it. They celebrated with just a few close family and friends and didn't do all the typical stuff you see at receptions. The entire day was just so laid back and relaxed. I had the best time just hanging out and capturing the moments that happened during the day! Thanks for letting Stef and I be a part of your wonderful day

Darn 'ol mother nature! I have been waiting to shoot at the Butterfly House FOREVER and it had to go and rain...nevermind the fact that we've had a drought for like...ever...hee hee oh well at least the rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits on Tricia and Paul's wedding day. It rained, but the ceremony went off without a hitch. It was such a moving ceremony and as usual, Sandra, the officiant was awesome. We snapped a few cute pics in the rain but then it really started coming down. ( My sister jodi from www.life-in-print.com) was my second shooter that day! We decided that Tricia and Paul get to play dress up and relive their wedding day all over agin and we'll go out and do some more photos! 8. I have no musical talents what-so-ever and am by far the worst...and when I say worst I mean ABSOLUTE worst ...singer in the world...which is funny because I love music..

7. I only weighed 98 pounds when I graduated from high school...and no I didn't have an eating disorder...just really skinny...sure wish I had that problem now AND I had big 'ol HUGE 80's hair and quite possibly may have been guilty of tight-rolling my jeans...shhhh it's a secret

6. I have been a teacher for 11 years...10 of those have been teaching 4th grade

5. Sometimes I have a potty mouth :( not around kids...just my friends and on the highway when I get road rage...so maybe that's ok...

4. I cannot go into Breadco or Borders and not order a frozen coffee drink...large with whipped cream...seriously I am so addicted that if there was a "frozen drinks anonymous" group I would have to join!

3. I have wrecked every car I have ever owned in some way (with the exception of my current one---knock on wood) I drive way too fast...

Emily and Brad tied the knot last Sunday over Labor Day weekend! Jerren and I had a BLAST. Seriously I have not had THAT much fun in a looooong time. Just about all of my favorite vendors were there! Plus Emily and Brad are two of the coolest, sweetest couples EVER! I felt like we've been friends forever. I was sad to leave. Anyway feel free to check out the slideshow. Between Jerren and I we had over 800 usuable images. I tried to narrow down a rough edit of just a few to get on here as quick as I could because I know many "blog stalkers" are anxious to see some new pics! I pretty much take off in August because it's back to school time for me and it's my kids' birthdays so August gets a little crazy! thinking about building a new Mayer Home...Read this FIRST

Many of you who read my blog on a regular basis know I am building a new home with Mayer. First off to avoid any legal technicalities that may arise when/if they see this I want to make it clear I am NOT trashing the quality of the homes Mayer builds. My new home that I no longer can afford due to curcumstances beyond my control will very nice and well built...but I wanted to warn anyone who is thinking about using Mayer for their new construction about my situation.

We put a contract to build a new home with Mayer back in Feb/March of this year. It is scheduled to be complete in November. I read the contract thoroughly and thought I understood exactly what was in it. Our biggest mistake was not getting a realtor involved to look over the contract and tell us exactly what certain things meant.

A few months later something happened that will drastically change my life forever. I won't get into on here (many of my clients know what I am talking about though) So it was with great sadness I informed Randy Mayer, owner of Mayer Homes, about my situation (which just to give you an idea of what I am going through...it's like I am stuck in the middle of a lifetime movie with no commercials and I can't get out)

In a letter I wrote to Mr. Mayer I informed him that I was/am emotionally and quite possibly financially broke due to circumstances beyond my control and would not be able to continue through with the contract on the house. I gave him the whole story of what happened to me. I am quite certain given my situation that I would not qualify for the new loan and literally BEGGED him to let me out of the contract. I also spoke with Karen Anderson, sales manager and and a man named Mark who is supposed to be the customer service manager and they all said the same thing. Karen went a step further though to inform me that "when I signed a contract with Mayer Homes I signed away all financial rights and even if Mayer breaks any part of their end of the contract it doesn't matter..I still signed away financial rights" then proceeded to tell me she wasn't going to argue with me because she had "6 people standing at her door waiting to talk with her about issues that were more important than mine" hmmmm...so is she saying customers aren't important to Mayer? I guess they are only important while they are getting you to try to sign the contract in the first place because let me tell you...they talk a good talk and will tell you what you want to hear.

The bottom line is Mayer Homes is not letting me out of my contract even though they know of my horrible situation...and when I say horrible...I mean really, reaaly, really horrible...and not only are they not letting me out of the contract, they said will sue me even though I won't qualify for the loan. I asked Karen Anderson if this happens frequently and she said "yes" and I asked how many times Mayer sues given these circumstances and she said "Mayer sues everyone that does not follow through on their contract"

Apparently when you sign a contract with Mayer homes there are lots of little things written in there and you are signing your life away. Mayer Homes is a multi million dollar company. Randy Mayer could put my house up as an inventory home and keep my $10,000 construction deposit and be done with it. Seriously Mayer has like 27 communities and build homes for the Bucks for crying out loud. But instead of doing that he is acting like a money hungry, greedy heartless jerk who OBVIOUSLY doesn't care one bit at all about his customers. Having to put one house up as an inventory home in jefferson county is not going to send him into bankruptcy, but it will most definitely send me there...He is basically forcing me into this house knowing I can't even bear to live there now much less afford it. I know contracts are there for a reason...I use them with every wedding...however given the situation and the fact that his company prides themselves on being so customer and family oriented, you'd think he would have a little more compassion. I have never been more disgusted with someone in my entire life. I don't know how this man sleeps at night knowing that he forces his clients to go through on things when he is 100% certain in doing so the house will most likely end up in foreclosure.

So If I can even encourage just one person to not build with Mayer I will think I have done the Saint Louis area a great service. I plan on getting the word out. And if you do decide to sign a contract with Mayer...be soooooooo very careful...even if you think things in your life are perfect and nothing could go wrong...GET AN AGENT...I HAVE A GREAT ONE NOW THAT I WOULD LOVE TO REFER TO YOU...

any takers??!! Here is the 411:
it's over 2000 square feet and is the popular split bedroom floor plan (which means the master and kids' rooms are on opposite ends of the house). We upgraded just about everything, 9ft ceilings with vaults, hardwood in hallway, kitchen and breakfast room, stainless steel appliances, ceramic tile backsplash, bay window with atrium doors, frieze carpet and upgraded pad, plant shelves, gas marble fireplace, arched windows, brushed nickel hardware, 2 in. blinds, 42 in. maple cabinets, open spindle staircase to the basement which is HUGE and contains a full rough in bath. There is also a luxury bath in the master bedroom with double sinks, jacuzzi tub and separate shower. It has a great room and formal dining room (which I use as my office). There is a closet in just about every room and tons of storage shelves in the basement and garage. The 3 car garage has 14 ft ceilings with both garage doors having garage door openers. The back has a huge patio that goes from one end of the house to the fireplace and has a built in fire pit with a "cabana bar" to the left. The bar is constructed of cedar with tile top with fully wired with recessed lighting, a ceiling fan and cable for watching TV. It's AWESOME for parties. The lot is also large (17,000+ square feet) and is in a quiet culdesac that backs partically to wooded common ground. The best part is this house is only about 2 minutes to highway 55, and any store you'd ever really need (Target, Schnucks, Home Depot, etc)It also only takes about 22-25 minutes to get downtown Saint Louis! The basement is huge but not finished yet. It is not a walkout but the right person could turn it into a walkout. It's listed for $250,000 (which is a STEAL) but we are willing to work on price further if we can sell it without paying out a huge commission to an agent. Last Sunday kelly Manno and I did our first real Boudoir shoot and it was SOOOOOO much fun...I think I may even like it more than shooting weddings...which is a huge thing because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE wedding photography! First off all the girls were awesome and were up for anything...they all gave permission to post too which totally rocks...but when you're as gorgeous as these girls I guess it's easy to say "yeah post them"...I cannot wait to do this again. We shot at the Ritz and the room was soooo nice! I want to set up a new marathon session. If I can get enough girls interested we can rent a room at the Ritz (possibly again) The price of the shoot was $250...but everyone got all their files on a high res CD, a passcode protected slideshow set to music, 50 4x6 proofs and a huge discount for a book made through www.life-in-print.com...also the price includes "retouching" of the images....which is a huge deal if there are "trouble spots"...If we can find a location cheaper than the Ritz (or free...like your house or mine) then the price can go down about $50...The room is expensive for me to rent there...I think they quoted us a price originally of over $400. We realized while we were there that these pics can really be taken anywhere...all we need is a bed and some nice natural light...and possibly a couch or chair...I highly encourage you to do this kind of shoot even if you are just in the "thinking about it" stage...Everyone was a little nervous and self consious at first...but within 20 minutes the girls realized...hey this is fun...and totally got into it. I promis it would be a gift that your fiance or husband would never forget!!

ok...I normally am very humble about my photography...but I am sooooo excited. I just found out that a photo I submitted to Schiller's for their "Celebrate St. Louis" photo contest won FIRST PLACE!!! The funny part is that normally I don't enter contests...I have only done it once before...both times it was a last second decision and both times I won 1st place...so now I guess I can call myslef "A two time award winning photographer" ha ha JUST KIDDING

So most of you know I teach 4th grade. My school was the one that got burned in the fire this past 4th of July holiday. I went up there yesterday and was astonished at how much damage was actually caused. Even though the fire was isolated to one pod of 5th and 6th grade rooms (9 total), the damage goes halfway through the school! It looks like a wazone. My room didn't get burned, but I got a lot of smoke damage. It reeks so bad..even after they took down the ceiling tiles and had everything taken out and everything taken off the walls. It's going to be a nighmare coming back and getting everything ready for the new year. My room was the next one past the doors of where the fire was isolated. Everyone who teaches back there (some for over 15 years) have to throw away everything that was in their rooms...everything...file cabinet stuff, bulletin boards...ANYTHING in those rooms have to go due to health concerns from the smoke. So let this be a lesson...never play with fireworks near something that can burn down. It's truly devasting. I am just thankful no one was hurt.

Sam and Chris were one of the many "lucky" couples to tie the knot on the much hyped about date of 7/7/7. This was the most non traditional wedding I have ever shot...what makes it non-traditional you ask...well...the groom wore a red tux, the bride wore Sketchers...no bouquets, just cool red and black feather boas, and no boutineers (I think I am spelling that wrong-sorry)..just snazzy lapel pins. The parents walked down the aisle to "knights in White Satin" and the wedding party walked down to Bittersweet Symphony! The whole wedding was Las Vegas themed and it was so awesome. Sam and her mom really did a lot of neat little details. Make sure to check out the slide show below. COngrats guys! I had a lot of fun!

Meghan and Bob

On June 30th, Jerren McKenny and I shot Meghan and Bob's wedding. Meghan had the most amazing "wedding hair" I have ever seen...and I tell you it stayed in place all day...sorry I can't direct you to who did it...but I digress
Anyways...The wedding was beautiful and I was in awe of all the hard work Meghan put into the planning...little details make all the difference! I was also impressed with how close both of them seemed to be with all their family and friends. They spent the night catching up with all their guests (which I thought was very considerate of them) and just overall having a BLAST! Jerren got some incredible shots and as usual I was thoroughly blown away...(I believe he is now booking his own weddings so spread the word...not that I am trying to send business away...ha ha but he really has a great eye...Click here to see some wedding highlights put to their first dance song!

Drew and Joette...married AGAIN

Joette and Drew have a really special story. They met and fell in love while they were both in the army. Drew got the call that he was going to be sent to Iraq, so they had a quick ceremony in 2005 before he left. So now a year and a half and one child later, they found some time to include their family and friends and celebrate their union all over again.
It was such an awesome day. At first I was FREAKING out because it was an outside ceremony and it was most definitely going to rain. Alison White (simply elegant events) was her wedding coordinator and she is just soooo fabulous! I highly recommend her. She handled all the day's issues (like rearranging the tent twice before the ceremony) and calmed Joette down when she started panicking during the rain. But just as the carriage of girls pulled up to meet the groomsmen, the rain stopped and the sun came out and the angels started singing...no not really...but that's what it felt like...It was such a great ceremony. Congrats guys and thanks so much for letting me photograph your wedding!

First let me just say that I have been very lucky since I have started to have all really fabulous couples, but Brooke and Clint really hold a special place in my heart. I adore this couple and the chemistry they have and the way the look at each other...man...it's awesome. Brooke is so funny because she stalks this blog religiously and she even knows names of past clients from reading here. I truly had a blast at their wedding...but it didn't come without stress...we were running SUPER short on time..the most time crunched I have ever seen...but we still managed to squeeze 15 minutes of pics in down at the stadium!

On Friday, June 1st I got to shoot Jenna and Tim's wedding down at the Randall Art Gallery! I met up with them earlier in the week so Jenna could give me a quick tour of the place! It is so neat and all the guests were talking all night long on what a great venue this place is! Stef and I had a lot of fun and we got to work with Mike from Thunderstorm Media! Another first for me was, Jenna hired the band "Fantasy" to play at her wedding! It was the first time I have ever heard a live band at a reception! Man, they soooooo ROCK! The fam finally got away for a weekend! We went to Gma and Gpa McDermott's lake house for Memorial weekend! We had lots of fun and it was so nice just to relax and have absolutley nothing to do...but then I went through withdrawals and had to whip out the camera...ha ha Here's a quick recap of the weekend

On May 12th I shot Stacey and John's wedding with my friend Stefanie. Stacey and John are two of the most "real", down to earth people I have ever met. She was so calm and relaxed all day (with the exception of the Phsycho unprofessional DJ incident) and it was just fun hanging out with them all day. Congrats guys! You had a beautiful wedding and I thank you so much for letting Stef and I share it with you!

The ceremony was so funny. Pastor Rossow was awesome and at one point during the vows John was so excited that he went in for "the kiss" at the wrong time (we still had like 25 minutes left of the ceremony) Even I was cracking up. It's hard to hold a camera steady when you are shaking so hard from laughing!

They totally "high fived" after the kiss and it was soooo cute!

so after taking pics...and a few beers later..the wedding party had to use the potty and we stopped at QT. There were some cops there that did some fun pics with us while we waited! One of them was Stef's uncle so we lucked out!

I was lucky to get any dance shots at this wedding. The DJ was really bad and had the wrong songs and Stacey got really mad. At one point he lost his power and the groom and his mom only got like 20 seconds of the song....choose your DJ carefully girls!

This is Samantha, and the daughter of one of my best friend's! I have known her since she was a little kid!! It's been awesome seeing her grow up over the years ! I love that she chose me to do her senior pictures! I am just glad we were finally able to get them done! Man we were cutting it close on time! Samantha is one of the smartest, prettiest girls I know. She is also going to Rolla next year on a cheerleading scholarship. We are all very proud of her! So after the Botanical Gardens I met up with Christin and Dennis...Now I must say...typically MOST guys do not enjoy engagement sessions...they just "don't get it". BUT I have never come across anyone who hates getting their picture taken more than Dennis (except for maybe me) and man...I tried like heck to get hime to loosen up...which he did...a little...but I am stupid because even though his name is Dennis...I kept calling him Bob....I couldn't figure out why until Christin pointed out that I did Kristen and Bob (whom she knows...small world) last weekend...so that made me feel a lot better...but then for no reason later I called him Tom..not just once...but like 4 times...UGH!!! I was soooooooo embarrased. I think it's because I had a million things going on and I am meeting with Jessica and Tom Tuesday....who knows...All I know is for how much Bob...I mean Dennis...hates getting his picture taken...I think he looks pretty darn cute in these...(you do too Christin!) :) Thanks for letting me take your pics and best of luck with your wedding in the fall!

I need to explain this picture...ok so we left the City Museum because it was hot and Dennis was a little leary of the million kids that were zooming around so we took off to Christin's downtown office building to grab a drink and cool off..This next picture is Christin trying really hard to get Dennis to relax..She was just being fuuny (I think the beer helped) and I just grabbed this shot of her being silly!

Welp...I had another trip to the Botanical Gardens...but this time it was with Tricia and Paul! We soooo lucked out with the weather. I was really worried about all the rain and rescheduling was going to be a nightmare! But everything worked out just fine! Since I go to the Botanical Gardens so much, I find that it's extremely challenging to make the pictures look unique to each couple. I really tried to do some different things this weekend so noone thinks they are getting carbon copies of what everyone else gets!! Thanks guys! I had a lot of fun!

I have no idea what happened...but my last post somehow got deleted! So here we go again...to sum up the last post...I got to photogrpah two very great couples last weekend. Danielle and Lennel and then later in the afternoon, Kristen and Bob. Here are some of my favorites! Sorry about that girls!
